You Ain't Grown

Joshua 9:14

“The men of Israel looked them over and accepted the evidence.”

Have you ever attempted to master something that was completely out of your normal skill set? I remember becoming determined to knit a baby blanket when I found out that I was pregnant with Jaxen. I searched high and low for knitting patterns, and studied them day and night.

As I followed the knitting pattern and began to get the hang of things, I got cocky with it. Instructions? HA, who needs those? I began to knit away, and a few minutes in I realized I needed to go back to the instructions, and more importantly STICK TO THEM.

In the above scripture, Joshua and the men of Israel were in a good place. They were defeating their enemies in battle, and finally entering into the promise land. But one moment of cockiness cost them a piece of their promise.

One day a group of men from a neighboring town disguised themselves as foreigners. Their plan was to trick the people of Israel into entering a covenant with them so that Israel would not attack them and take their land.

Joshua 9:14

“The men of Israel looked them over and accepted the evidence.”

The did not seek God.

Up until this point, the people of Israel checked in with God every step of the way. God had performed many miracles on their behalf. You would think that it would be embedded in them to come before God BEFORE making decisions. Because they did not stick with the instructions, they were tricked, and unable to seize the land that God promised them.

Can you relate? I am sure we can all think of a time where we got a little cocky and thought that we made it this far in our own strength. You see friends, without seeking God for instructions we will end up on the wrong path. Naturally we seek Him (the manual/instructions) when things are all over the place, but what about in the good times?

It’s easy to get caught up in our victories, forgetting who made us victorious. Let’s always remember God has the manual to our lives. Seek him first. One decision made on our own can cost us our victory!!!!

Lets make a vow to stick to the manual even in good times!
